Tupper's ideas

With the snow outside, it’s time to write.

Nowadays, Diet and Nutrition have come into our lives as a “boom”. We come from not even ask ourselves what are cookies made of, to have a massive variety of products, at the supermarket, which we don’t know. Also, loads of publicity everywhere about a lot of new products almost everyweek, what at the same time puzzles and intrigue us.

All of this makes people, industry and companies end up talking about diet and nutrition as something banal, leaving on the other side or even without knowledge, this has a scientific basic and we are talking mainly about health.

That’s why with this blog we are going to develop some interesting and valuable ideas to extend out knowledge and help ourselves what to choose for cook or eat. So, today we are going to talk about something very easy.

We must be honest, because everybody knows more and less what is “eat well”. However, the circumstances like live with your couple or alone, if there are children at home, what are there in the fridge. The money, schedule, eat outdoors, trips, parties and even how do you feel that day, it was make us leave the priority of healthy apart.

So, I think something quite simple and handy is have a small list of dishes for different occasions, and avoid to use your imagination, what in my case is very poor normally.
The next list is great for “Tupper’s ideas” to bring to work or University. I’ve separated in two groups; cold dishes (If we don’t have a microwave where we’re gonna eat it) or hot dishes. But the point is they are easy dishes to cook as well. So, keep it well because you’ll use it for those days when you feel very lazy or busy for be in the kitchen.

- Cold dishes -

1. The classic one: Tomatoes with mozzarella and oregano salad
2. No more than 15min in the kitchen:
  • Rice and lentil salad with tomatoes and avocado: I want to let you know that a mixed of a cereal like rice, with a legume like lentils will give you high quality proteins. And it’s an ideal course for veggies.
  • Hummus: (handmade just buying a jar with cooked chickpeas and mash them or buying hummus already done at the supermarket) with carrots steaks and pita bread.
  • Mixed vegetables (like broccoli, courgettes, aubergine, cauliflower, and asparagus, whatever you want…) with goat cheese: You can buy packs of vegetables which are cut and mixed already or do it yourself. Just remember as fresh and less modificated vegetables are, more nutritional value they have.
  • Cous- cous: There is a pack in Tesco (with I found the other day and I think is really good) with three variety of flavour. It’s dehydrated and just need to add 170ml of boiling water and wait 5 min. What I did was add some vegetables like broccoli and carrots. You will increase the nutritional value and make it quite tasty as a perfect course!
  • Potato salad with tomatoes, cucumber, pepper, onions, egg cocked and basil.
  • Rice salad con nuts and raisins.
3. With meat:
  • Letucce salad with chicken, croutons and Caesar dressing.
4. With fish:
  • Pasta salad with tuna, peas, and sweetcorn.
  • White beans salad with prawns and mushrooms.
  • Green beans salad with salmon and potatoes.
- Hot dishes -

1. The classic one: Sausage (much better if they are chicken made of) with potatoes mash
2. No more than 15 mins in the kitchen:
  • Spaghetti with vegetables (whatever you like or you have at home) with soya sauce.
  • Filled pasta with tomato sauce and grilled courgette.
  • Omelette with green and red pepper and some spinach as side plate.
3. With meat:
  • Scrambled egg with mushrooms and cooked ham.
  • Chicken fillet with poached potatoes and onions.
4. With cold:
  • Fish sticks with cold side salad (tomatoes, onions and cucumber and olives).
It would be great if you fancy tell me how these ideas are going on with you, any opinion or even question. I would be very happy to help you and know more about you, so don’t be afraid!!

Coming up!

In the city where the phone boxes and buses are red, where The Rolling Stones were born. The city which is one of the four most important economic centres in the world, where there are six airports and more than eight millions of people from everywhere, the time is limited and priorities loads.

We work so hard, in shifts of 13 hours per day normally, under exhausting timetables, and with no too many days off, which end up dedicated especially in social life or leisure. How are you gonna say NO to join in any of thousands options that London offers you everyday. Or have a pint or a nice coffee with your friends, who you’re not meeting a lot for the same reason, short of time.

Obviously, in this kind of culture, feed goes to the background. When we have only 30 minutes for a lunch break, which can be even less or disrupted by mishap or unforeseen, our starving stomach and the preasure of the short time are the boss.

We are in a hurry to take whatever closer is, a wrap in Pret à Manger, a sandwich in EAT, some sushi in Wasabi or a burguer in McDonals, which in the end, it’ll be eaten in seconds.
There is a wide variety of choices into a big group of this sort of companies, but after all, everthing is the same, just in different places. And the most important thing, it’s not a good quality food and cheaper neither.

Therefore here we go. On my own, as an habitant of this city, I feel lost at the time to decide what I am gonna eat and where I am gonna spend my money, which is hardly difficult to earn.
I’m gonna introduce myself, I am a young Spanish girl, and I’ve been living in London for a year already, working in a café. This place offers this kind of food as well, which normally I do myself and I know which ingredients are they made of with. I earn the minimum rate salary and for that I work sometimes in a events catering for extra money.

So, for that reason, and because I am a Nutritionist and Dietist as well (with a degree by University of Granada, Spain, and some experience in the field), I am beginning this proyect, with the intention to help Londoners, including me, to find the proper way for a good and healthy feed within our strict lifestyle.
You’ll find some advices, analysis with details of this kind of companies and what are they selling, such good or bad stuff, and a lot of ideas of how to cook your lunch at home and bring to work.

Let’s start!

Please, don’t feel offended if there is any grammar or spelling mistake. I’m afraid for that in advance. I am stil improving my English. Thx!
